- Malcolm Stokes and the Gophers: Coast 2 Coast 6-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the Guild Theater. Welcome the Sacramento-native trumpet player as he returns home to perform with his jazz ensemble band. Tickets from $40.
- Livability Summit 2025 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Citrus Heights Event Center, 6300 Fountain Square Drive. This is Valley Vision’s annual collaborative conference for advancing equity, sustainability, and prosperity. Each year, the summit brings together a diverse cross-section of community members and regional leaders to learn, engage, and act on issues that matter most in the region. Hear from community leaders like Larry Lee, publisher of The OBSERVER; Keiona Williamson, journalism sustainability director of the James B. McClatchy Foundation; and Dr. Dawnté Early, board member of Valley Vision and Sacramento Area Council of Governments. Students are free to attend. Tickets from $75.
- Candlelight: Tribute to Whitney Houston on Strings 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the California State Railroad Museum. Experience the Listeso String Quartet perform classic Whitney Houston songs such as “Greatest Love of All,” “One Moment in Time,” “I Have Nothing,” “You Light Up My Life,” and so many more, under romantic candlelight. Tickets from $42.
- LOVE FOR THE MUSIC TOUR VIP EXPERIENCE 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Amphitheater at Quarry Park, 4000 Rocklin Road, Rocklin. Hear Fortunate Youth live, an American reggae rock band that has been active since 2009 and known for its positive messaging and a sound that blends traditional roots reggae with elements of blues, ska, rock, and punk. Tickets from $31.
- Community Health Resource Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Southpointe Christian Center, 7520 Stockton Blvd. Join state Sen. Angelique Ashby at her inaugural Community Health Resource Fair for a day of free health and wellness resources, activities, and services for the whole family. This free event provides attendees with assistance in Medi-Cal enrollment and navigation, free health screenings, and flu vaccinations. There will also be kid friendly activities centered around literacy and STEAM topics provided by the Sacramento Children’s Museum and Sacramento Public Library. Free, attendees must register online.
- 6th Sacramento Black College Expo 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Sacramento State. Seniors, juniors and college transfer students have the chance to meet one on one with HBCUs and other colleges and universities. Get all the help you need to succeed. Everyone is welcome. Get accepted to schools and get scholarship and internship offers on the spot. Students must bring their transcripts and ACT or SAT test scores. Free, donations are being accepted.
- Women Make the World Go ’Round Rib Cook-Off 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11440 Elks Circle, Rancho Cordova. A mouth-watering experience as talented women chefs showcase their rib-cooking skills. Bring your friends and family for a fun-filled day of food, music, and community. Tickets are $13.
- Grant High Class Of 2005 – 20-Year Reunion 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Blue Cue, 1004 28th St. Catch up, reminisce, and make new memories. Come out for a night of fun, laughter, and nostalgia. Don’t miss this chance to reunite with old friends and classmates. Blue Cue’s dress code will be enforced. Tickets from $23.
- Ledisi: ‘For Dinah’ 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at UC Davis in the Mondavi Center, Jackson Hall. Ledisi’s love for classic songs and legendary singers knows no bounds. The Grammy-winning vocalist celebrated the catalog of Nina Simone in 2021, and now the powerhouse pays tribute to Dinah Washington. In her upcoming album “For Dinah,” Ledisi honors the legendary blues and jazz singer saying, “She gave me permission to move freely, create freely, be a woman in leadership, wear and say what I want.” Tickets from $50.
