Federal law enforcement on March 12 captured two suspects in New York in the Valentine’s Day shooting death of Chasity Sparkman, Sacramento police said.

Isaiah James and Ayonna Burgos, both 25, remain in custody in New York and face extradition on homicide charges.

Sparkman was shot at Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive and later died at a nearby hospital, The OBSERVER reported.

Vanessa Renee-Adams, Sparkman’s cousin, told The OBSERVER she is grateful for law enforcement’s efforts in making the arrest.

“We never knew whether the police department was working on it or doing anything, but I’m definitely thankful to the investigators who worked on it,” Renee-Adams said.

Renee-Adams said that James and Sparkman were married and that Burgos and James were a couple. Police could not confirm the relationship between the suspects and victim.

The arrests happened the same day as Sparkman’s funeral, Renee-Adams said.

“It’s such a relief, it’s a blessing knowing that they’re caught and justice is going to be served.”

Sparkman leaves an 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter who are being cared for by their aunt.
