The Sacramento Public Library is continuing its “Enters the Chat” speaker series in the coming months. Among the featured guests are Christian Cooper, who many know from being accosted in Central Park in May 2020 for Birding While Black.

“Christian Cooper: Enters the Chat,” is set for Sunday, March 24 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Central Library Galleria. The Central Library is located in downtown Sacramento at 828 I Street.

Cooper will talk about his debut memoir, the NY Times best-selling book,”Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World.” Cooper is also the host and a consulting producer for National Geographic’s hit series, “Extraordinary Birder with Christian Cooper.”

Cooper served as president of the Harvard Ornithological Club while in college and currently acts as a vice president of New York City Audubon, where he advocates for greater, safer access to green spaces for all, with a focus on outreach to youth in underserved communities. A longtime activist on issues of racial justice and LGBTQ equality, Cooper combined his passions in the BLM graphic short story “It’s a Bird” from DC Comics and continues to seek synergy at the intersections of storytelling, progressivism and environmentalism.

Previous speakers include Pulitzer Prize-winning essayist Hilton Als; Nigel Poor and Earlonne Woods, hosts of the prison podcast “Ear Hustle” and local art curator Faith J. McKinnie.
