What is your vision for District 2 and why do want the job?

My vision for District 2 is the same as my vision for District 4 and the rest of the city: Sacramento should be a destination of choice. We must be able to provide a city that we want to continue to invest in and be a place that our children want to raise their families.

I want to work for Sacramento to make this a city that we can all be proud of and that the next generation will enjoy.

What are the biggest challenges facing District 2 and how do you plan to solve them?

The biggest challenges facing District 2 are the same challenges facing District and the rest of our region:

Safe Neighborhoods

Protecting our community is my top priority. Many are concerned about the escalation in crime and too many feel that the city is not fulfilling its duty. I will work with our public servants, especially firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency outreach staff, to ensure they have the resources to beresponsive and protect the safety of all Sacramentans.

Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness

I am dedicated to responding to the homelessness crisis, which has reached unprecedented levels in our city. The human suffering and impacts on our communities are unacceptable and require urgent attention. It’s time for bold action to create affordable housing and transition the unhoused off the streets and back onto a path of stability and self-sufficiency.

Affordable Housing

Wemust create more affordable housing options for all incomelevels. Sacramento possesses enormous potential to tackle the affordability crisis while maintaining its status as oneof themost livablecities in California. That’s why I’m passionate about amplifying our efforts to increase housing options for residents and families of all income levels.

Strengthening Local Businesses

Sacramento’s strength lies in its vibrant local businesses, including its exceptional restaurants, unique boutique shops, thriving breweries, cozy coffee shops, and diverse nightlife options. Helping our local businesses recover is important as we move beyond the pandemic; it is imperative that we prioritize supporting our local businesses to ensure their success, growth, and longevity.

What are your views on how to handle the homeless?

The policies that weneed most are those that help create more housing that people can afford. I sat on the Sacramento Planning and Design Commission for eight years.  I have a good understanding of the roadblocks that have been set up that hindered housing production in our city. One of my top priorities on council would be to help remove a lot of those roadblocks.

Helping the homeless requires not just coordination with thecounty, but actual collaboration. The City of Sacramento cannot provide all the necessary services to the unhoused, nor should they.  Working with thecounty as partners will go a long way providing those most at need with the services they need.

How can you keep your constituents safe and promote business?

Our Police Department is grappling with nearly onehundred unfilled positions that are already funded. Swiftly filling these key public safety roles means shorter response times, solving more crimes, more officers on thestreet. and effective traffic enforcement that literally saves lives. We need fair and equal enforcement of all laws and codes so that we can focus on the business at hand.

What does police reform look like to you?

Open and transparent oversight of our police department to restore trust between the community and public safety officers.  Investing in preventative measures like youth sports and afterschool programs that are crucial to proactively combat crime and build safer communities.

Why should African American vote for you?

I believe we all want a Sacramento that is thriving, where we have a safe community, affordable housing, a good standard of living, good schools, plentiful jobs, and an exciting city with great food, art, cultural events, and entertainment.  How we get there is by focusing on the core issues of our city that benefit all our residents. Our city leadership has dropped the ball too many times. I’m ready to hold our city accountable and strive for results.
