SACRAMENTO – The work to save the lives of African American children in the Sacramento region continues to gather steam, with the selection of the final community-based group that will join the effort.

The Steering Committee on Reduction of African American Child Deaths (RAACD) this week, announced the final of seven Community Incubator Leads (CILs) for the initiative to reduce the number of Sacramento County’s African American child mortalities. The Focus on Family Foundation, Inc., located at the Antioch Progressive Baptist Church, will serve as a CIL, a community-based organization that provides social services to local residents within each of the focus neighborhoods to implement the efforts of the Steering Committee on RAACD.

The Focus on Family Foundation, Inc. will serve the Meadowview area and joins other CILs that were announced earlier this summer, including Arden Arcade: Mutual Assistance Network – Arden Arcade Community Center; Fruitridge/Stockton Boulevard: Sacramento Building Healthy Communities HUB, North Sacramento/Del Paso Heights: Roberts Family Development Center, North Highlands/Foothill Farms: Liberty Towers Church of the Nazarene; Valley Hi: South Sacramento Christian Center; and Oak Park: Greater Sacramento Urban League.

While the Blue Ribbon Commission Report originally highlighted six focus neighborhoods with the highest disproportionality of African American child deaths, the Steering Committee voted in May to separate the Meadowview/ Valley Hi neighborhood to provide more centric support given the area’s high-density population and large geography.
