Sacramento’s Most Powerful and Influential Black Leaders
ABOUT ROB ARCHIE
Rob Archie was born in Woodland, California, and raised in the greater Sacramento region. After distinguishing himself on the basketball court at San Diego State University, he played professionally in Europe — a life-changing experience that introduced him to new cultures and culinary traditions. When he returned home, Archie channeled that global inspiration into hospitality ventures that would redefine Sacramento’s food and beverage scene.
In 2008, he opened Pangaea Bier Café in the Curtis Park neighborhood, a community hub built on the simple idea of bringing people together through great food and exceptional beer. Pangaea quickly became a local institution, earning back-to-back Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice awards at the Sacramento Burger Battle in 2015 and 2016 — the first establishment ever to do so.
Building on that success, Archie co-founded Urban Roots Brewery & Smokehouse in 2018. Located in Sacramento’s Richmond Grove, Urban Roots celebrates locally sourced barbecue and innovative craft beer. The brewery was named “Brewery of the Year” in 2021, further cementing Archie’s reputation as a visionary in hospitality.
His portfolio has since expanded to include Cerveceria by Urban Roots, BAWK! by Urban Roots, The Roost, and Good Neighbor — each concept reflecting his passion for culture, connection, and craftsmanship. Through his ventures, Archie continues to elevate Sacramento’s culinary identity while building community one table at a time.
