Mahiri Comeaux is a rising leader in higher education communications and a passionate advocate for equity. A first-generation college graduate, he launched his nonprofit, Moore Truth More Change, as a freshman at UC Davis to uplift underrepresented communities. Now a standout member of the UC Davis communications team, Comeaux has transformed Chancellor Gary May’s social media presence into a model for engagement in higher education — no other UC Chancellor boasts a digital footprint as dynamic. Comeaux’s storytelling and video production skills connect leadership with community in authentic, impactful ways. Despite graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic, he has excelled professionally while mentoring his younger brother through college. With a rare blend of vision, resilience, and heart, Comeaux exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose and creativity.
If you could grab coffee or a meal with any historical Black figure or current influential African American person, who would it be and what would you ask them?
Nipsey Hussle. Not just because of his legacy — but because I believe he’d truly understand the lane I’m running in during contemporary society. The vision. The grind. The divine assignment. We’re both tapped into something bigger than just success: it’s about impact, about ownership, about servant leadership. I wouldn’t waste time with surface questions either. I’d ask something only he and I would really get, something about walking the marathon with God, while still showing up bold and full of love for the people even when they show hate. My favorite mixtape from Nip is called X-Tra Laps because it was built on faith in 2013 when he was in the midst of chasing his vision.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our “30 Under 30” sponsors for their generous support:
