As multiple labor disputes occur throughout the city, Natomas Unified teachers plan to join the fight as they go on strike Tuesday, March 10th.ย

Natomas Unified will be the second district to go on strike in Sacramento, following Twin River Unified teachers.

The district said last week they offered the union a 4% salary increase and a 100% district-funded health plan option, which will cost the district and taxpayers approximately $30,250 annually per employee.

The union rejected it as they seek an 8.5% raise over two years, a fully employer-paid Kaiser health care plan for members and their dependents and minimum staffing levels for school nurses, psychologists and social workers.

Schools throughout Natomas Unified will remain open for the strikes as the district said they will provide students with supervision, access to meals and resources and a continued curriculum.ย

With more than 16,800 students in their schools, approximately 17.8% identify as African American.ย

Twin Rivers Unified is continuing with their strike, which began on March 5th seeking raises, better healthcare and class size reductions.ย

In addition, the West Sacramento Teachers Association authorized a โ€œstrike-readyโ€ vote in February and have upcoming negotiations with Washington Unified School District later this month.
