Hosting three different radio shows typically signals an extraordinary level of expertise, credibility, and work ethic in the broadcast journalism industry. It reflects a professional with strong multitasking and organizational skills, capable of delivering themed programming that captures and sustains audience attention. A strong on-air personality and reputation are essential.ย
Sacramento radio personality and sports journalist Kenny Caraway exemplifies these qualities. He is one of the few broadcasters in the region who has demonstrated both the personality and technical capability to operate successfully across three different platforms. At one point, Caraway hosted a sports show on KDEE FM 97.5 and ESPN 1320 AM while also co-hosting a rhythmic hip-hop and R&B program on KSFM 102.5.ย
Based in Sacramento but representing all of Northern California, Caraway โ widely known as โK.C.โ โ continues building his brand as a dynamic on-air personality and respected sports commentator. His journalistic work includes conducting interviews, researching, reporting facts, and delivering balanced, insightful analysis of sporting events and news.ย
Alongside Damian Barling, Caraway is co-host of โD-Lo & KC,โ the No. 1 sports show on ESPN 1320. He can also be heard on 102.5 KSFM, a leading hip-hop and R&B station.ย
Caraway credits much of the showโs success to his partnership with Barling.ย
โOur working relationship is built on trust, open communication, respect, and mutual support,โ Caraway said. โThe radio show is the flag-bearer, but we do other activities for growth.โย
Known for bold and thoughtful commentary, Caraway covers professional franchises including the San Francisco Giants, Sacramento Kings, San Francisco 49ers, Sacramento Republic FC, and the world of boxing.ย
โKenny gets it. He knows sports. He can speak intelligently about any of the major sports categories. I like the guy,โ Dusty Baker, former MLB player and retired World Seriesโwinning manager of the 2022 Houston Astros, said of Caraway.ย
Caraway also surrounds himself with leaders in journalism and broadcasting. He is a frequent contributor to CBS 13 Sacramento, regularly appearing on Sports Sunday to cover collegiate basketball and on Good Day Sacramento to discuss local sports and current events.ย
Veteran journalist Sara Hodges, now a sports anchor and reporter for ABC 7 Bay Area, has collaborated with Caraway on numerous projects since their time at CBS 13. Both share a passion for sports storytelling and community representation, with Hodges honing her craft covering athletic programs atย Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
โKenny is the definition of a true professional โ one of the best at what he does,โ Hodges said. โHis gift is his authenticity. He brings a raw, real perspective that resonates with every sports fan. He celebrates the highs and speaks honestly about his own team, which creates a genuine connection.โย
โHe can break down the Xโs and Oโs with depth, but he also knows itโs the story beyond theย game that matters most. On top of that, heโs one of the best people I know, and Iโm beyond grateful toย have worked beside him over the years,โ she added.ย
Caraway remains focused on growth, both personally and professionally.ย
โI think my future is bright,โ he said. โDamian and I talk about it often. We both do things outside the show, but the hub is always D-Lo & KC. Weโre going to do this for many years. Individually and together, the sky is the limit. Iโm always trying to evolve in this business.โย
Jake Gadon, sports director at CBS 13 (KOVR), works closely with Caraway and Barling on Sports Sunday, where they analyze national, regional, and local sports. Gadon notes that Carawayโs knowledge spans professional, collegiate, and high school athletics.ย
โHeโs a trusted name that viewers and listeners love. But itโs his efforts away from the spotlight that truly define him. His dedication to helping the next generation of hoopers is admirable and will have a lasting impact for years to come,โ Gadon said.
Caraway is a regular presence at Sacramento State University sporting events and frequently brings influential voices to the airwaves, including menโs basketball coach Mike Bibby and former football coach Brennan Marion. He recently hosted Coachโs Corner with Marion before the latter moved on to serve as the offensive coordinator for the University of Colorado football program.ย
Beyond broadcasting, Caraway is deeply committed to community service. Each holiday season, he becomes โSanta Claus,โ distributing gifts to children in need. Last summer, he served as emcee for the Sacramento Juneteenth Celebration, uplifting culture and community pride. In his spare time, Caraway partners with Coach Sam at SKILLS Factory, where he helps train young athletes, develop their basketball skills, and build confidence on and off the court.ย
Caraway is married to Jasmine Caraway and is a devoted father to his son, Rhys, and daughter, Rhyan. He continues to balance sports journalism with service, mentorship, and a commitment to inspire futureย generations.ย
Gadon perhaps summarized his impact best:ย
โKenny Caraway is the Stuart Scott of Sacramento โ as cool as the other side of the pillow. He truly puts on for the Capital City,โ Gadon shared. โHeโs one of the most connected and well-respected sports names in Sacramento, from his days hooping at McClatchy High to now behind the mic at ESPN 1320.โ
