- More Voices, Stronger Democracy: 50th Anniversary of Section 203 Summit 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the California Endowment, 1414 K St. No. 500. Marking the 50th anniversary of Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, the full-day summit features engaging conversations with panelists and advocates working to expand language access at the ballot box. They are excited to welcome California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley N. Weber; and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. Tickets are $55.
- 2025 State of Black Maternal Health in CA 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the California Museum. Hosted by the California Black Health Network, in partnership with Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson’s office, this event features medical professionals, legislative advocates and champions, and community leaders who will present the latest data, lived experiences and policy solutions aimed at eliminating maternal health disparities. Lunch will be provided. Free, attendees must register.
- ’Show Her The Money’ Screening 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Esquire IMAX Theatre. “Show Her the Money” addresses how women are getting less than 2% of venture capital funding and demystifies what venture capital is. The film will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with cast members and producers. Meet Catherine Gray, Vicky Pasche, Wendy Ryan, John Majeski and Lata Setty of “How Women Invest,” plus special guests. Registration is subject to approval by the host.
- Local Author Silent Reading Party 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at A Seat at the Table Books, 9257 Laguna Springs Dr., No. 130, Elk Grove. Join local authors, bring their books to read and pick their brains about their work as you read it. Featured this month are Shea Robinson, author of “Dance with Me”; Jason Denzel, author of the “Mystic” trilogy; Verde Arzu, author of “Rainbow and Promise Keeper”; and Patricia Bossano, author of “Faery Sight”. Free, attendees must register.
- Mahogany Urban Poetry: Hot August Writes 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Our Place Event Space and Kitchen. Be inspired, moved and entertained by talented spoken word poets sharing their creativity and passion. This month features Marques Littles, Natascha and Imhhur Onlysun, and promises to be a celebration of art, culture and community. Tickets are $12.
- 03 Greedo – Live Music 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at The Rink Studios, 1031 Del Paso Blvd. 03 Greedo is a multifaceted artist from the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, known for songs like “Substance,” “Trap House” (featuring Shoreline Mafia) and “Sweet Lady.” Tickets from $31.
- D’Lai – Special Comedy Event 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club. D’Lai is one of the nation’s most sought comics. He has appeared on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” Showtime, BET’s “ComicView” and Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud Network. Tickets from $29.
- Mike E. Winfield – Live Comedy 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Aug. 29-30, at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club. The man who’s synonymous with comedy is currently on a hot streak. Mike E. Winfield is riding a huge wave from the Simon Cowell Golden Buzzer and various appearances on “America’s Got Talent.” Tickets are $29.

- Charlie Mac: F* Them Kids Tour 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Punch Line Comedy Club. Originally from Chicago and now based in Austin, Texas, Charlie Mac has achieved success across comedy, authorship, and acting. His debut book, “F* Them Kids,” became a cultural flashpoint, going viral on Kill Tony before going viral again on Worldstar less than a month later. The book’s raw honesty and biting humor proved his storytelling chops extend far beyond the stage. Tickets from $29.
- Delta Breeze Fundraising Party 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at 12749 River Road, Courtland. Grape picking will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by de-stemming at 10:30 a.m., pressing at 11 a.m., wine tasting at 1 p.m., racking at 1:30 p.m. and bottling at 3 p.m. Come enjoy good wine, good friends and a good cause.
