Staff Report
Nearly 20 years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, a new docuseries returns to the heart of the storm, this time through the voices of those who lived it. Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Traci A. Curry and executive produced by Ryan Coogler, presents an unflinching look at the human toll of one of America’s deadliest disasters.
Through powerful firsthand accounts and rarely seen archival footage, the series reexamines the chaos, neglect, and resilience that defined the aftermath. In this exclusive interview, Curry and participant Shelton Alexander reflect on the urgency of telling these stories now, not just to remember, but to confront the narratives that failed survivors then and still fail them today.
Premiered July 27 on Disney+ and Hulu, the series is a deeply personal and politically charged reminder of how natural disasters become manmade tragedies when systemic neglect enters the equation.
