Sacramento Republic FC is moving forward with plans for its new downtown stadium in the Railyards, filing necessary documents with the cityโ€™s planning division ahead of a crucial city council meeting in June.

On Tuesday, the club’s president and general manager, Todd Dunivant, announced the submission of paperwork aimed at securing approval for the project, scheduled for discussion on June 10.

The proposed stadium project is divided into two phases, covering a total of 14.7 acres. The first phase envisions seating for 12,000 spectators, with plans to increase capacity to 20,000 in the second phase. This figure marks a reduction from earlier proposals that anticipated a 25,000-seat stadium as part of the club’s bid to join Major League Soccer.

According to the filing, Phase 1 will feature an open-air, generally rectangular structure measuring approximately 550 feet in length and 500 feet in width, excluding minor extensions for features such as access stairs and roof parapets. Surrounding the stadium will be a wide concourse that includes single-story facilities for service, operations, concessions, retail, and restrooms on both the stadium and street sides.

Phase 2 includes a rectangular canopy roof designed to offer shade and rain protection, expanding the stadium’s dimensions to approximately 700 feet in length and 575 feet in width.

The stadium design incorporates feedback collected from fans earlier this year.

Sacramento Republic FC plans to hold a grand opening for the new venue in 2027.

Plans for the stadiumโ€™s entrances indicate the primary access point will be located at the southwest corner, supplemented by secondary entrances at the southeast and northeast corners, both of which will connect via open-air plazas. Other entrances will be oriented toward Railyards Boulevard and 8th Street, while additional access points for staff and media are also being considered.

Seating areas will be reachable via stairs or ramps on all sides of the stadium.

The proposed stadium includes various levels of amenities, including a field level featuring general and VIP seating, locker rooms, and retail spaces. The concourse level will offer clubs, lounges, and additional concessions, with ample space designed for both fans and operations.

The club level will provide elevated access to seating and include extensive conditioned club spaces, while a suite and press level will feature multiple suites and facilities tailored for media and press.

Entry plazas are designed as multifunctional spaces, potentially hosting retail and seasonal events, as well as providing video screens and sound systems to enhance the experience for attendees even outside the stadium.

Sustainability is also a key focus of the plans, with efforts to exceed standard green building and energy efficiency requirements, and provisions for valet bike parking during high-demand events.

To manage the stadium construction and design, Republic FC has enlisted the expertise of the Machete Group, MANICA, and House & Robertson Architects, Inc., firms known for their work on major sports venues and projects.

Parking provisions will include temporary surface lots nearby, with additional options in the downtown area and near Old Sacramento.

The construction timeline and innovative stadium design signals a significant step in the Republicโ€™s ongoing efforts to enhance Sacramento’s sports landscape.
