  1. 2025 Americans Against Gun Violence National High School Essay Contest The deadline to enter is 11:59 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in the applicantโ€™s time zone. Late entries will not be accepted unless the delay was caused by a malfunction of the Americans Against Gun Violence online entry system. To enter, students must submit their essays and demographic information via the online entry form.
  2. Skate for a Cause 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Sunrise Rollerland. This is the perfect space for skaters of all ages to enjoy the thrill of roller skating in a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere. With a spacious rink, great music and a lively environment, itโ€™s the perfect spot to skate for a cure and raise money to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Tickets are $18.
  3. Mic Under Pressure Open Mic Comedy Night 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Guild Theater. Hosted by the hilarious comedian Mars Parker, with sounds by Litty Rocket. Up to six comics can sign up and hit the stage to test their material, but thereโ€™s a twist: the audience holds the power to end your set with a bang. Three balloon pops meanโ€™s your time is up! If you survive, you might just be one of the chosen to close out the night alongside the featured headliner. Tickets are $13.
  4. Dom Kennedy 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Ace of Spades. Dom Kennedy is a staple of West Coast hip-hop, known for his laid-back delivery, slick wordplay and heavy L.A. vibes. Tickets from $48.
  5. Library After Dark: Pop Culture Trivia 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at TAP Wine Lounge, 1011 Del Paso Blvd. Guests test their knowledge of movies, music, TV shows and internet culture in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Teams compete in multiple rounds while enjoying TAPโ€™s curated wine selections. Perfect for pop culture enthusiasts, this after-work event offers prizes, laughter and a chance to socialize over drinks and light bites. Free and open to the public.
  6. Say It Loud – LIVE COMEDY 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club. Come out for a night of laughs with performances from Michael Calvin Jr., Javon Whitlock, Sammy Edan, Marcian Evans, D-Roc and Stevie Cee. Attendees with April Birthdays will receive free entry. Tickets are $24.
  7. Greater Sacramento NAACP 43rd Annual Prayer Breakfast 7-9:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sacramento. Join a morning filled with prayer, reflection and community. Come together with fellow members and supporters as they gather to receive inspiration from Pastor Darnell Thomas, Bishop Esley Simmons and Pastor Jeffery Johnson, II. Letโ€™s start the day off right with a delicious breakfast and inspiring words. Tickets are $71.
  8. Free Spring Open Climb 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Sacramento Stateโ€™s Peak Adventures Challenge Course, behind Yosemite Hall. Come out for a free evening of climbing. Everyone who climbs is entered into a giveaway for a chance to win a longboard, a bag of chalk or a pair of sunglasses. Must wear closed-toed shoes to climb. Open to ages 8 and up.
  9. 3rd Friday Reggae with Big Mountain 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Swabbies Restaurant and Bar. Come out for a night of food and music performed by legendary band Big Mountain. Hear them perform classics like โ€œTouch My Light,โ€ โ€œBaby I Love Your Way,โ€ โ€œFreedom is Not Free,โ€ โ€œSacred Loveโ€ and more. Tickets are $23.
  10. Rhythm & Blues Live Entertainment with Featured Band: Coles & Co 8-11 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Boss 5 Star Lounge, 1017 Front St., lower level. A night of live entertainment with DJ Foxzy and friends, featuring the Coles and Co. Band. Tickets from $10.
  11. Festival of Eggs 8-11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Lembi Park, 1302 Riley St., Folsom. Little ones will have the opportunity to collect stamps, goodies and eggs โ€“ donโ€™t forget to bring a basket. Complete all the stops for a chance at a golden egg prize. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast (available for purchase), test your skills at carnival, explore vendor displays and take a picture with the Easter Bunny. Arrival times are staggered: ages 6 and under should check in between 8-9:30 a.m., while ages 7-10 are welcome from 9:30-11 a.m. Free and open to the public.
  12. Kiwanis 41st Annual Easter Egg Hunt 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 19, at Rusch Community Park West End, 7801 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights. This longstanding community event features games, DJ, vendors and egg hunts. Participants should bring their own baskets for the hunt. Free and open to the public.ย 
  13. Vibes & Flow Sacramento 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Westin Sacramento Riverfront Hotel and Spa. Join instructor Veronica Bolds for a nurturing yoga and meditation event designed to celebrate and support Black women in reclaiming rest, ease and creativity. This special gathering is an opportunity to calm the nervous system, reconnect with yourself and build community in a supportive, affirming space. Tickets are $20.

ComposeHer: Plugged In โ€“ A Panel & Networking Experience 3-6 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Gallery by We Are Sacramento, 1019 Del Paso Blvd. Come out for an exciting event celebrating women in the music industry.   20. B-Legit 8 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at Harlowโ€™s. Brandt Jones, better known by his stage name B-Legit, is a rapper from Vallejo. Early in his career he was part of The Click, the rap group founded by B-Legitโ€™s cousin, E-40. He gained much attention for collaborating on Tupac Shakurโ€™s album โ€œAll Eyez on Me.โ€ Tickets are $25.
