Barberz Dreme Co. in Elk Grove became ground zero for free cuts Sunday afternoon as predominantly Black barbers trimmed the locks of several dozen school-age youth. The 11-year-old event, “Fresh Cuts for Bright Futures,” offered the free cuts to children of single parents, said Nichole Denise, founder of ScholarsforPurposeInc, which hosted the event.

According to its website, ScholarsforPurposeInc.org, the organization “empowers single-parent scholars to achieve academic and personal success through comprehensive support services, including life skills training, mentoring, educational resources, and community partnerships. Our mission is to break generational cycles of poverty and create a foundation for lifelong achievement.”
Denise’s organization teamed with Another Choice Another Chance and Barberz Dreme. More than 80 boys and girls across race and ethnicity signed up for free cuts. For upcoming free events, please contact Barberz Dreme Co. or ScholarsforPurposeInc.org/events.
