- Moms In Balance: Navigating Postpartum Wellness with baby – Noon-1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Mind Garden – A Gathering Place, 929 Sutter St., Folsom. Join a six-week, psychologist-led series for moms and babies ages 6 weeks to 6 months. They aim to foster community and connection through weekly topical discussions and developmental play. Topics will include navigating maternal identity, self-care with an infant, evolving relationships, mom guilt and more. They hope to provide a weekly touchstone for support as you build your village and navigate the postpartum journey. Attendees must register.
- Black Student Mixer – Noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Sierra College, Rocklin. Join Black students, staff and faculty to kick off Black History Month and kick off the spring semester with the community. Free and open to Sierra College students.
- Webinar: Eviction Notices in California – 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, online. Are you a renter with a disability in California and have questions about evictions? Learn about your rights in this workshop, which covers eviction notice requirements, what to do if you receive an eviction notice, and tips for resolving or preventing these issues. This webinar is aimed at tenants with disabilities. Service providers are welcome to attend, but tenant questions will be prioritized during the Q&A. Free, attendees must register.
- Gallant – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Goldfield Trading Post. Gallant is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter celebrated for his emotive falsetto, introspective lyrics, and innovative blend of R&B, soul and electronic influences. Known for his powerful live performances and unique artistic identity, Gallant has carved a space in contemporary music that resonates deeply with fans and critics alike. Tickets are $34.
- Speaking Freely with Dr. Cornel West – Noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Sacramento State, University Union Ballroom. Dr. West’s keynote focuses on the theme of free speech and freedom of expression, topics that are as urgent as they are timeless. Following his address, Dr. West will join Sacramento State President Dr. Luke Wood on stage at 1 p.m. for a moderated discussion. This conversation will further explore the intersections of free speech, equity and education, offering attendees a unique opportunity to witness the exchange of ideas between two transformative leaders. Free, attendees must register. Once tickets for the Ballroom have reached capacity, tickets to view a livestream of the lecture from a room in the University Union will be made available.
- Tuskegee Airmen Speaking Event – 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Sierra College, Rocklin. Tuskegee Airmen Heritage members tell the history of the amazing, all-Black World War II fighter group. Free, open to the public.
- Carries TOUCH presents Dinner with the Youngers – 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Guild Theater. This event blends iconic Black media, real talk, and bold healing, all while making history and strengthening families across generations. The event features conversation, live readings, activities and dinner with the purchase of a select ticket. Tickets from $25.
- Luniz Numskull & Michael Marshall With Turf Talk and Mia Mei – 9 p.m.-Midnight, Friday, Feb. 7, at Old Ironsides. For the second time in history, witness Michael Marshall and Numskull perform “I Got 5 on It,” along with performances from other artists and DJ’s. Tickets from $23.
- COLORS Worldwide Presents: R&B ONLY LIVE 18+ – 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Ace of Spades. Dedicated to celebrating R&B music from past to present, this is a DJ-driven event where audiences can sing, dance and enjoy a nostalgic journey through R&B’s greatest hits and modern favorites. Attendees must sign up to purchase tickets.
- Returning Home: Taking Refuge in the Heart with Devin Berry – 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Sacramento Dharma Center, 3111 Wissemann Drive. This daylong retreat offers a supportive space to reconnect with the grounding power of mindfulness and compassion through guided and silent meditation, walking meditation and Dharma reflections. Meditation teacher Devin Berry began practicing in 1999. His teaching is rooted in the Buddhadharma and mindfulness daily life practices. Tickets from $30.
- Justice Through Action – 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the California Museum. This year’s event, “Black Reparations/Reparative Justice,” features discussions with Dr. Cheryl Grills, a clinical psychologist with an emphasis in community psychology and Don Tamaki, a senior counsel at Minami Tamaki LLP who has spent decades working with AAPI legal services programs. Tickets are $15.
- Black on Black– ART x POETRY – 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at 915 27th St. Immerse yourself in a fusion of art and poetry that celebrates the beauty of Black culture. Witness talented artists bring their vision to life through spoken word, paintings, photography and more. Feel the power of words as poets share their soul-stirring verses. This event is a unique opportunity to experience the depth and richness of Black creativity. Tickets from $7.
- Astral Noir: An Artistic Dive Into AfroFuturism – 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2100 Del Paso Blvd., Suite A. Immerse yourself in a world where science fiction meets African culture, music and art. Featured artists are Abayomi Brownfield, Mattyheatwitdaheat, Izayjah, Shawntay Gorman, Sara Scott and Noelle C. Get ready to be inspired by an eclectic list of visionary artists pushing the boundaries of imagination. This is a free event and art will be available for sale.
- Braxton Cook – 7:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at UC Davis’ Mondavi Center, Jackson Hall. Blending jazz, soul and alternative R&B, Braxton Cook is one of this generation’s most exciting emerging voices in the jazz world. Listed as a top five jazz artist to watch by Ebony magazine, Cook has released six projects including his most recent album “Who Are You When No One Is Watching.” Tickets from $13.
- New Wave Society: Classic Hits of the ’80s New Wave – 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Harlow’s, The Starlet Room. Come out for this V-day special featuring the top hits of the ’80s New Wave presented by DJ Keyz and DJ James. Tickets from $14.
- The Great Gatsby– Casino Royal Party – 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Our Place Event Space and Kitchen. A night of glitz, glamour and gambling.
