- Sacramento Trivia Night: Do You Know More Than These Historians? – 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Ruhstaller BSMT, 726 K St. How well do you know our state capital’s history, geography, sports, science, arts, pop culture and more? You’ll play against a group of board members and supporters from the Sacramento Historical Society. Your entry fee will go towards the Joan Didion Scholarship Fund. There will be incentives for you to donate more during the game so you can win one of three great prizes. Teams of up to six people. Tickets are $7.
- Twin Rivers Unified Teacher Recruitment Fair – 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Twin Rivers Unified School District (Bay A), 5115 Dudley Blvd., McClellan. Twin Rivers Unified seeks amazing educators to join their dynamic team. Scheduled interviews will be conducted for qualified candidates to fill vacancies in multiple subjects, single subjects, early childhood education and special education. - LET IT GO, SIS! – 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at ONTRACK Program Resources, 520 Ninth St. No. 102. This in-house, African American/Black women’s support group is a curated space to give and receive words of encouragement, motivation and mental and emotional support amongst a collective of Sistahs. Join as they check in, connect, and tap into the unique therapeutic value of sisterhood. Free, attendees must register.
- What You Know About That? Trivia Showdown with the Capital City Zetas – 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Lock and Key, 2718 J St. Calling all Sacramento Greeks: Join them at Lock and Key for a night of brain-teasing fun at their D9 trivia showdown hosted by the Capital City Zetas. Bring your crew, grab some good eats, sip on your favorite drink and show off your Greek knowledge for an unforgettable evening. Tickets are $13.
- Special Movie Screening of “N.W.A: Not Without Alonzo” – 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Guild Theater. Don’t miss this special screening of the documentary chronicling the origins and evolution of West Coast hip-hop through the life and influence of Alonzo “Lonzo” Williams. The event will be moderated by Jay King, a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, record label executive, music manager and radio show host. Tickets are $13.
- PoHop Poetry Night – 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Guild Theater. Don’t miss out on the ultimate fusion of poetry and hip-hop! Join us for an unforgettable night of rhythm, rhyme, and raw talent. This month features Jordan Kale, an R&B singer-songwriter and producer from Sacramento who blends eclectic soul with heartfelt storytelling; D Paul, a rising rapper from Sacramento, known for blending raw lyricism with a powerful presence in his music; and DJ Madsticks. - “Farming While Black” Film Screening – 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Community Shop Class Inc., 3818 Stockton Blvd. This event showcases the stories of empowerment, struggles, history and resilience of Black farmers in America. Discover the important role they play in sustainable agriculture and food justice. We will watch, discuss and celebrate the contributions of Black farmers while supporting Black voices in farming. Tickets are $7.
- Author Talk Featuring Elaine Kelliher – 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Underground Books. Kelliher was the finalist in the Essence magazine Maya Angelou’s Award in Creative Fiction in 1989 for her short fiction “Brown Sugar.” The featured book will be, “Do You Think I Cried Too Long?” Free, attendees must register.
- Comedy Night At The Guild Theater – 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Guild Theater. Get ready for a night of nonstop laughter and entertainment featuring performances from Dru Burks, Jay Rich, Mario Hodge and headliner G King. Tickets from $23.
- MOUNTAINTOP 2025 – 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Guild Theater. Enjoy a day of soulful proclamation featuring speeches from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Maya Angelou and more. Tickets are $25.
