  1. How to Read the Bible for All Itโ€™s Worth โ€“ 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, through Thursday, Aug. 31, at Dr. Ephraim Williams Family Life Center. Knowing how to correctly interpret the Bible is vital for Christians. This course will give you tools to better understand the Scriptures.
  2. Free Coffee Night at Old Soul โ€“ 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Old Soul at 40 Acres. Come enjoy a free cup of coffee, connect with others in the area and meet the team from The Hope Community, a new Sacramento church. Their hope is to create a space where people can gather, share their stories and build meaningful relationships.
  3. POHOP โ€“ 7:30-10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Guild Theater. Hosted by C West & J.Nash, POHOP sheds its light on the masses. Come experience this fusion of poetry and hip-hop.
  4. Cirque du Soleil: โ€œCorteoโ€ โ€“ 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 3-4, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, and 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Golden 1 Center. Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, โ€œCorteoโ€ premiered in Montreal in April 2005. Since its creation, the show has amazed more than 10 million spectators in 20 countries on four continents. This engagement marks its first Sacramento performance.
  5. Sacramentoโ€™s First Friday Caribbean Edition โ€“ Noon-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Pacific Business Plaza. Sacramento’s First Fridays Caribbean Event is the ultimate experience station to bring back the nostalgia of the true Jamaican vibes. Servings of reggae music, authentic Jamaican food, ultimate party vibes and more in one irie setting.
  6. Assemblymember Kevin McCarty Annual Backpack Drive โ€“ 1-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Northgate Park. Please join the office of Assemblymember Kevin McCarty and Councilmember Karina Talamantes for a joint backpack drive. The event features free backpacks and school supplies, free food, health screenings and more.
  7. Sunrise Marathon Sacramento โ€“ 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail. Run in this small, private group with other runners and run pacers through a beautiful route. All paces and ages (under 18 with guardian) welcome โ€“ run or walk! Run is capped at just 15 participants per wave for health, safety and just the right amount of encouragement. Get your ticket online.
  8. Creekside Town Center Back-to-School Event โ€“ 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Creekside Town Center. The event features balloon artists, face painting and a gift with purchase. Shoppers who spend $75 or more will receive a backpack filled with school supplies, while supplies last. To redeem, shoppers must bring their same-day receipt(s) to the redemption table near Nails 19. One receipt per person and one backpack per receipt.
  9. All White Party โ€“ 9 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West. 97.5 FM and Old School Entertainment are back and ready to party at our annual All White Party. Dress up and dance the night away. Dress code will be strictly enforced. This night is for the grown and sexy. DJ Magic Mel and DJ Racer X will be in the building spinning the best hits.
  10. Soulful Sunday Brunch โ€“ 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Brickhouse Gallery and Art Complex. Live performances by musicians, poets and songwriters; a DJ and โ€™90s R&B karaoke; raffles and more! All proceeds to support Malcolm X Academy for the 2023-24 school year.
  11. 2023 Unity Nโ€™ Community Old School Soul Food Cook-Out โ€“ Noon-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Del Paso Heights School Park. Come and enjoy an afternoon of free soul food, live music, sports, bike shows, raffles and vendors. Contact DJ Mike B, 916-534-3120, with questions.
  12. Back to School Extravaganza โ€“ Noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Dry Creek Community Park. Eighty Nine Ninety Four Foundation will give away school supplies to the communityโ€™s youth. Participate by spreading word to youth/families who can and will attend. This is a great opportunity for children to receive school supplies. Children must be present to receive the supplies.
  13. Bee Day: The Honeybee Experience โ€“ 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Yisrael Family Urban Farm. This interactive class will focus on the importance of bees and how they impact the ecosystem. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and long-sleeve shirts with long pants. The class is outside, so be sure to bring a water bottle and a hat or sunscreen if needed.
  14. Sunday Movie Matinee โ€“ 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Guild Theater. Bring the family for a free movie. This month is Disneyโ€™s โ€œSoul.โ€
