Sacramento Observer’s ONYX 25 Awards recognize individuals who demonstrate significant and impactful influence within the Sacramento region’s African American community. These honorees are leaders who shape our community through their exceptional achievements, dedication, and ability to inspire positive change. Our selection process focuses on individuals who embody the following qualities:

  • Impact and Reach: The extent to which their work, initiatives, or leadership affects the lives and well-being of individuals and communities within Sacramento. This includes the scope of their influence in their respective fields.
  • Leadership and Innovation: Their ability to lead, inspire, and drive innovation within their organizations, sectors, or community initiatives. This encompasses vision, strategic thinking, and the ability to mobilize others.
  • Contribution and Achievement: Significant accomplishments and contributions to their field, whether in healthcare, education, business, non-profit, entrepreneurship, public service, or other vital areas. This includes demonstrable success and a track record of excellence.
  • Community Engagement and Advocacy: Their active involvement in the African American community and their commitment to advocating for its progress and addressing critical issues. This includes their role in fostering unity, empowerment, and positive social change.
  • Resilience and Integrity: Individuals who demonstrate strength, perseverance, and ethical conduct in their leadership and endeavors. They serve as role models through their character and commitment to integrity.

In essence, the ONYX 25 Awards celebrate individuals whose actions and influence significantly contribute to the advancement, empowerment, and overall well-being of the African American community and the broader Sacramento region
