Sacramento’s Most Powerful and Influential Black Leaders
ABOUT KEVIN JOHNSON
Kevin Johnson’s story is woven into Sacramento’s modern history — not just as a two-term mayor and NBA All-Star, but as a builder whose vision has reshaped neighborhoods, opportunities, and civic pride. His career is defined by a rare mix of competitive spirit, faith, and a relentless drive to make change happen — even when it isn’t easy, or popular.
As CEO of Seven Ventures and Seven Management, Johnson leads companies at the intersection of government, sports, and social enterprise. He also serves as General Partner of the Black Capital Fund, a $10 million venture fund investing in Black and underrepresented entrepreneurs. Through Fixins Holdings, his restaurant group with locations in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Tulsa, and Detroit, he continues to celebrate culture and community through food.
During his time as mayor, Johnson led the effort that kept the Sacramento Kings in the city — assembling a new ownership group, raising $535 million to purchase the team, and developing the Golden 1 Center. That vision sparked over $1.5 billion in downtown investment and a renewed sense of civic identity.
Long before elected office, Johnson was changing lives in Oak Park through St. HOPE, a community development organization focused on education and revitalization. Decades later, he remains committed to that mission—revitalizing neighborhoods, creating jobs, and investing in a new generation of Black ownership and leadership.
Through every role, Kevin Johnson’s work carries a simple through line: building things that last.
