The Sacramento Public Library is launching “Enters the Chat,” a speaker series featuring notable voices from the Sacramento community and beyond. Meet Pulitzer Prize-winning essayist and author Hilton Als on April 27, “Ear Hustle” podcast hosts Nigel Poor and Earlonne Woods on May 10, and award-winning author Ann Bannon on June 22 at the downtown Library Galleria.
All series events are 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays.
“Sacramento Public Library has a laser focus on cultivating experiences around a love of storytelling and amplifying diverse voices,” said community engagement services manager Todd Deck. “Like many of our library programs, the ‘Enters the Chat’ speaker series creates thoughtful conversations on topics that matter to our community.”
Hilton Als, a Pulitzer Prize-winning essayist and author, and Joan Didion superfan, chats with Sacramento-based curator Faith J. McKinnie about Als’ most recent work on Didion and her lasting impact.
With more than 60 million downloads, “Ear Hustle” is one of the most popular podcasts in history. Poor and Woods, co-hosts and co-authors of “This Is Ear Hustle: Unflinching Stories of Everyday Prison Life,” will share stories of the daily realities of life inside San Quentin prison and outside post-incarceration.
Ann Bannon, Sacramento-based award-winning author and pioneer in gay and lesbian fiction, will chat about LGBTQIA literature, how her work has endured for more than 60 years and her thoughts on recent censorship challenges in schools and libraries.
