A new scent permeates the southeast entrance of Arden Fair, as Spidermonkey Dessert Studio takes over the former location of Hot Dog on a Stick.
Spidermonkey made a name for itself at weddings and brewery pop-ups before securing a storefront at Arden Fair. With summer festivals ending and the cold coming, owner Jamie Mack looked for a new, warm location to continue baking. She reached out to Kristina Osbourn, a speciality leasing manager who wanted Arden Fair’s stores to reflect the community. Spidermonkey moved in during the COVID-19 pandemic and opened Nov. 1. Hot Dog on a Stick remains at Arden Fair, having moved upstairs.
“It was a little scary when we first started” because of the pandemic, Mack said. But coming in during the holiday season allowed for a rush of new potential customers. While Spidermonkey still offers catering service, it also offers fresh beignets, the most popular of which are classic, strawberry shortcake and pecan caramel. Mack, however, prefers cinnamon. “It is tossed with cinnamon sugar and it has cinnamon butterscotch and a cinnamon cookie crumble,” she said. “It is just divine.”
