The Black community and Arden Fair often have had fraught relations. In recent years, the venerable mall has been criticized for at least a perception of racially profiling Black teens — particularly during the holidays. It also has not traditionally housed many Black businesses. But, as you might have noticed, that is changing. Arden Fair now is home to numerous Black-owned merchants, with enterprises ranging from comics vendors to alternative medicine.

Here The OBSERVER highlights five Black-owned storefronts that are part of Arden Fair’s changing face.
