The RydeFreeRT program offers fare-free transit for youth and students in grades transitional kindergarten through 12. Youth can ride SacRT buses, light rail, and SmaRT Ride on-demand microtransit service for free year-round during regular service hours.
RydeFreeRT is available to all the approximately 220,000 TK-12 students who live or attend school within SacRT’s service area, which includes Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova and parts of Sacramento County. Home-schooled students and foster and homeless youth also are eligible. The program does not apply to those over age 18 pursuing a GED.
New cards for the 2022-23 school year are distributed by schools and are valid through June 30, 2023.
Students and youth who need a RydeFreeRT card can visit SacRT’s customer service and sales center at 1225 R St. (adjacent to the 13th Street light rail station) or any Sacramento County Public Library.
