Ten years have passed since his critically acclaimed debut mixtape dropped, but New York-based rapper Joey Bada$$ is still partying like it’s 1999.
A local audience packed Ace of Spades on July 24 to hear the rapper, who stopped in Sacramento as part of his “1999-2000 Tour.” The mixtape was titled “1999” and his latest studio album, “2000,” was released two days before the local show. Fans may also recognize Bada$$, born Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, from the small screen. He has appeared in such television shows as “Boomerang,” “Mr. Robot,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” in which he portrayed hip-hop legend Inspectah Deck. He closes the year with 13 shows in seven European countries.
