“God’s chosen leader” is an appropriate theme to describe a ministry that has endured for 16 years. And while there are other leaders who may have a longer tenure, it is noteworthy that Elder Bennie Toliver, shepherd of  Sacramento’s Progressive Church of God In Christ, not only has the respect within his own congregation, but he is also a respected leader in the Sacramento community as well.  For 1 Timothy 3:1, 7 states that  “If a man desire the office of a bishop…he must have a good report of them which are without.”

In recognition of his leadership, his congregation celebrated Elder Toliver and their first lady, Mrs. Ermia Jean Toliver, his wife of 62 years, for their service and dedication to the flock placed in their care.

The speaker of the hour was Rich Schuhmeier, Pastor of the Victory Restoration Center here in Sacramento.

The service was filled with tributes, reflections and dedications through song and scripture.  The illustrious couple, outfitted in the royal colors of purple and gold, were presented with gifts and praise from friends, family and congregants.
