As part of this year’s 18th Juneteenth Festival the organizers of the annual event will host the first “Arts and Education Pavilion and Juneteenth Art Contest” at William Land Park.
This year’s free Juneteenth celebration and art contest is set from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 19.
Sacramento Juneteenth Inc. partnered with the new midtown art gallery, Project 25, to host the contest and display the winning exhibits that honor and represent the event’s historical meaning.
The winning artists of the Juneteenth Art Contest will be awarded on site and publicly recognized. Local youth (high school) and adult artists are asked to submit original pieces to participate.
Selected artists will display their pieces in the Pavilion with Sacramento Juneteenth Inc.’s (SJI) staff and members of Project 25 selecting the winning art pieces.
The victorious participants will be awarded cash prizes and publicly recognized during the event program.
Participants not selected for the exhibit may still have an opportunity to display their art in the pavilion.
All art mediums are welcome and organizers will provide easels. The artwork should have a strong Juneteenth-Black History theme
Artwork work submitted must include contact information, art titles, date of artwork, size of artwork
(inches), medium, dimensions, price, and special installation requirements.
Artists must deliver artwork by the due date of Monday, June 7. SJI is not liable for any loss or damaged submissions. Artwork submitted must be available the entire day, June 19. No early breakdowns or pickups allowed.
Artists may submit a maximum of two original pieces of artwork online to be considered with a brief description of art and any special requirements. Email pictures of art and submission brief to: juneteenthartistcall@gmail.com. Submissions must be jpg-pdf format.

The 2021 Junetenth festival will consist of the following components.
Theme: Getting serious about our health
- New this year is the Juneteenth Art Contest. We’ve partnered with a new midtown art gallery – Project 25 to host the contest and display winning exhibits. Winners of the Juneteenth Art Contest will be awarded on site and recognized.
- To address the Health issues facing the Black community and other communities of Color, Juneteenth has partnered with the Sierra Health Foundation to host a Health/wellness forum in the arts and education pavilion.
- The forum will feature local health professionals addressing; healthcare disparities,Covid-19 long term effects on the Black community, Myths and falsehoods associated with the vaccines and the importance of the Black community getting vaccinated. We will also provide on-site vaccinations (County Health department).
- The Kings and Queens Rise program of Sierra Health Foundation will host a basketball skills camp throughout the day, in addition to a youth golf tournament from 1-3 pm next door at the land park golf course.
Organizers expect more than 80 food and ware vendors to participate. Several local dignitaries have been invited to address attendees. Some of those confirmed are: Assemblymeber Kevin McCarty, Councilmembers Rick Jennings and Mai Vang. Invited guests include Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Secretary of State Shirley Weber. Local professionals will speak to voter rights and suppression, children’s mental health, educational failures during COVID and much more.
Entertainment will feature local bands: Flyism Uncensored, Prophesy, The Groove Band and Mr. Hooper.
