The famous California State Fair is underway. It’s the perfect summer outing for the family to enjoy endless activities such as concerts, local vendors for shopping, and amusement park rides. Every year, Sacramento welcomes over half a million people to the California State Fair during the 16 days it’s open.

Families travel to Sacramento from up and down the state each year and we expect this year to be more highly attended because there are so many new and exciting experiences to be enjoyed. The fair’s advisory board, filled with a diverse group of individuals, has done excellent work to ensure Californians from every part of the state will enjoy their time at the fair and have the best experience possible.

This year’s unique events include a youth mariachi competition, musical guests such as Tony! Toni! Toné! and Martina McBride, and for the first time ever an Esports Bear Cup Tournament.

Another new welcome change is the fireworks display. Unlike last year, there will be a high-tech computer-controlled drone light show. There will also be a variety of food options to cater to visitors’ dietary needs and roller coaster rides for all ages and a monorail for adults.

Sacramento is a wonderful home for the California State Fair but there are so many other reasons to visit the city year-round. For example, there are several educational museums that are fun for the whole family, such as the Aerospace Museum of California and the California State Railroad Museum. In contrast, if visitors prefer the outdoors, they can go white water rafting or hiking through one of the many nature parks. Additionally, visitors can catch the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center to watch a basketball game.

Most Americans, especially in California, are familiar with Sacramento, but how many tourists from outside the United States know about all the fun attractions here? Sacramento is a beautiful, diverse city with a culture that should be shared with people from around the world. Thankfully, there are travel organizations like Brand USA that promote America’s great cities and tourist attractions.

Brand USA is a valuable organization because it recognizes tourist destinations of all sizes from all across the country, not just the bigger cities that international tourists already know about. Plus, this public-private partnership costs the American taxpayers zero dollars. Brand USA is paid for by a small fee international travelers pay through the visa waiver program. Unfortunately, this travel promotion program that boosts so many U.S. economies is at risk of being reauthorized. Thankfully, California residents have elected members of Congress who fight for us every day like leader Kevin McCarthy who can support Brand USA’s reauthorization.

Visitors from all over the world should have the opportunity to experience how great Sacramento and our state is during the California State Fair. The two-week event combines and showcases all the best parts of our state and is fun for all ages and backgrounds. So many families look forward to the annual event and we hope this one will be the best.
