ROSEVILLE – Sacramento may never replace Hollywood. But local filmmakers believe that the north state has a role to play in future of California’s film industry. And that future starts today.
RELLIK, a new crime thriller features local talent both in front of and behind the camera and is being filmed at various locations throughout the Sacramento region. It is the brainchild of local independent filmmaker, Jason Knittle and his team of local writers.
“I wanted to do something unique and create a character that people will remember”, shared Knittle. “I think we did just that with RELLIK. ”
The creative process for this project took a significant turn when Emmy Award winning director Tim Russ (best known for his role as Tuvok on Star Trek Voyager) took interest in the script.
“I was originally approached about an acting role in the project”, shared Russ.. “I asked if they had a director in mind. When the told me they didn’t have anyone in place, I offered my services.”
RELLIK has been on a fast track ever since.
Shortly thereafter, actor/producer Chris Holley of NBC’s State of Affairs and Smokin Aces jumped on board as a producer. Holley has worked with the actors and production team to ensure a Hollywood level of professionalism. He sees RELLIK a potential job creator for the Sacramento Region.
“We are trying create a model for the entertainment industry here in Sacramento” , noted Holley. And despite a modest budget of $25,000 he believes it could potentially bring six to seven figures in annual revenues to the area.
Also playing a major role in show is local actor and media personality, Craig DeLuz. Not only is he one of the writers and producers, but he also plays a lead role as Det. Dante Valentino who partners with Eli Kenton played by fellow local writer/actor Brian Jagger. Together, they are hot on the trail of a serial killer.
“We’ve been working on this project for over a year. So, it’s great to see it coming together so well.” said DeLuz, who also hosts a local cable show, Sacramento Film Works. “We have a chance to show what we are capable of here in Sacramento. And I truly believe this is only the beginning.”
RELLIK will be premiering at the Sacramento Comic Con on June 20th. Producers will be marketing the series to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Crackle with hopes to produce an entire season right here in Sacramento.
