SACRAMENTO – They will be celebrations fit for a king.

Rehearsals start this week for two upcoming music events celebrating the life and legacy of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All area choir members and local singers are invited to participate in rehearsals for a MLK Celebration Concert taking place at Capital Christian Center on Sunday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m.. Practice sessions, led by the Porter Brothers of Genesis Baptist Church, will be held at the church Friday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m.; Friday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m.

Rehearsals have also been set for the Sacramento Metropolitan Choir of the Gospel Music Workshops of America’s Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Concert. Sessions are to be held at Shiloh Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15 and Friday, January 16. The mass choir will perform at the annual MLK concert at Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday, January 19 at 5:00 p.m. This year’s guest speaker will be Rev. Karif Lawrence of Antioch Progressive Church.
