SACRAMENTO – They’re looking for a few good men. The Mr. Black Sacramento contest returns this May to present positive examples of Black males.

New hosts, the Sojourner Truth Museum and Conscious Vibes, say they’re searching for “ the whole, productive, nurturing, courageous and powerful Black man.” They’ve set the event for 5:30 p.m. on May 10 at Burbank High School’s Auditorium.

Auditions for the Mr. Black Sacramento & Juniors Competition are set for Saturday, April 5 at Ubiquitous, 431 I Street (near Amtrak Station). Contest is open to Juniors ages 13-17 and Adults 18-35. The grand prize is $1,000 for adult category and $500 for Juniors.

Competition includes interview, talent, formalwear and community involvement categories. Adults will have an additional swimwear/physique category. Youth have an added essay category and are asked to write one-page answer to the question, “How do you define success as a Black man in America?”

Cost to enter is $30. Advance tickets to the competition are $20. Tickets sold at the door will be $30.
