OPINION – As a pediatrician and university professor, I taught students the importance of strengthening communities to improve health. We know that communities where people are connected, look out for each other, and come together to make positive change are healthier and safer. Community associations and non-profits play an important role in connecting and bringing people in the community together.

When I was teaching at UC Davis, many community organizations partnered with me in Communities and Health Professionals Together (CHPT) to educate future doctors about community health and to have these doctors give back to the community.

As I witnessed the impact of state and county cuts to my community partners and my patients, I decided to run for the State Assembly. Now, as the Assemblymember for the 9th District representing Sacramento, Elk Grove, Galt and Lodi, I am pleased to join many community organizations in locating my district office on 2251 Florin Road at a community center affectionately known as “The Incubator.” I am excited about the opportunity to partner with organizations including WIC (Women Infants and Children), Birth and Beyond, 100 Black Men of Sacramento, and Black Advocates in State Services who will be our neighbors.

As an elected representative and community organizer, I am eager to partner with people in the community to support them in bringing positive change to neighborhoods in my district. By locating my office in “The Incubator,” I hope my staff and I will be easily accessible to community members and community organizations as we work together to build stronger, healthier communities.

My team stands ready to assist constituents with a variety of services. If you want to share an idea or concern, need help with services, or would like my office to partner with you on a community project, please give my team a call.

You can contact me at the new Assembly District 9 office at 2251 Florin Road, Suite 156, Sacramento, CA 95822 or call (916) 262-0999. We look forward to hearing from you.
