SACRAMENTO – A vote is a terrible thing to waste. African Americans are being urged to educate themselves on the issues and make their voices heard in the upcoming Presidential election.

Aiding the local effort is an organization called the 916 Hollywood Initiative. The group will present a free VIP viewing of the new BET news documentary, “Second Coming?: Will Black America Decide The 2012 Election?” on Thursday, October 25 at the Guild Theater, 2828 35th Street. The event is set to run 6-8:30 p.m.

Co-founder Cory D. Jackson said the vision to promote entertainment in the Greater Sacramento and Central Valley region all the while being “Social Conscious in a Social Setting.”

The documentary is executive produced by Sam Pollard (“Slavery By Another Name,” “Eyes on the Prize II”) and Marc Levin and Mark Benjamin (“Brick City”). The producers, politicians, volunteers and community leaders will speak briefly before the screening, followed by the opportunity to network.

The event will be hosted by Craig J. Jackson, who has hosted such television programs as VH1’s reality show “I Love Money” and TBS’ “Midnight Money Madness.”

Blends journalism and reality television in a seminal effort to capture the African-American perspective on the 2012 elections in all its complexity. The producers capture both consensus and division among Black organizers, celebrities and operatives as they wrestle with the process of making change and mobilizing voters to impact the Presidential race. The docu-series follows behind-the-scenes efforts to mobilize the Black vote against the backdrop of urban youth violence, the debate over gay marriage, and the economic crisis.

The documentary includes appearances by Kerry Washington, Usher, Samuel L. Jackson, the Rev. Al Sharpton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Yolanda Adams, and Ice Cube.

Organizers say the goal of the local viewing is to help re-energize the community and political volunteers in the final few weeks leading up to the elections.
