SACRAMENTO – 16th Annual California Rosa Parks Day Celebration is scheduled for Monday, February 8 at the California State Capitol.
The late civil rights icon Rosa Parks is known globally for helping to spark change in the Jim Crow South by refusing to relinquish her seat on the bus for a White rider. Her refusal brought about the Montgomery Bus Boycott and demonstrated the power of African Americans to impact systemtic change.
The theme of the local event is “Equity and Equal Opportunity in Global Intermodal Transportation Systems.” This year’s keynote speaker will be long time rights advocate, Alice Huffman, who serves as President of the California Conference of NAACP.
The Rosa Parks Day Celebration is set to run 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Eureka Room.
