OPINION – Lou Holtz once stated: “Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you respond to it.” Recently, I found myself being asked the why question.“Why do bad things happen to good people?”

I have always found this statement intriguing on so many levels and not because it isn’t a valid observation but rather because of how we as humans view life experiences. The truth is, each and everyone of us encounters at some point in our human existence situations that are unwanted and unexpected, however with the gift of life comes the gift of choice.

The truth is, life and the universe is in a continual state of working for us not against us, therefore by removing the why question and replacing it with the inner knowing that life is rigged in our favor allows our perspectives to change and openings to manifest.

You see, by responding to any undesired circumstance with the question of: “If life was rigged in my favor what lesson am I to learn in this painful state of being” creates a sense of internal fulfillment in the midst of life’s many little storms.

George Bernard Shaw said it best: “Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself”

Therefore, the only way to create oneself is by embracing the obstacles, grow into the next level of living from it and above all create a new belief system that life is happening for us and not to us.

Be Bold. Be Great. Be You.
