OAKPARK – The Women’s Civic Improvement Club (WCIC) hosts its Annual Open House on Saturday, April 26. The event is slated to run from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.
The theme of this year’s festivities is “Keeping Our Legacy Alive.” For over 77 years, the WCIC has provided programs, services and activities geared toward meeting the needs of Sacramento’s low-income communities. WCIC was formally organized in 1936 and incorporated in 1945.
WCIC’s program emphasis has and continues to be directed toward the development of responsible citizens through community participation. Founded as a refuge for single Black women who couldn’t find safe and affordable places to live in the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s, it provides a safe haven for children and adults through its Head Start and senior nutrition programs. The open house will feature music, food, conservation and networking opportunities.
The WCIC is located at 3555 3rd Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. For more info visit www.wcicinc.org or contact Ms. Davis at (916) 451-8870.
