You’re Invited to An Evening With Tavis Smiley in Sacramento

Tavis SmileySACRAMENTO – He’ll get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year, but locals will get a chance to see him shine next week, as Tavis Smiley comes to town for a special discussion.

The talk show host and author will be presented by the area group, PAC15 on Friday, November 8. An Evening with Tavis Smiley will be held at Elks Tower Sacramento, located at 921 11th Street.

Smiley is celebrating his 10th year on PBS in 2013. He is the host of the channel’s “Tavis Smiley” which airs nightly and features news and Smiley taking on issues of the day with political and entertainment movers and shakers.

Smiley, was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People In The World in 2009. In addition to his broadcast presence on television and radio, he is an author of such books as “What I Know For Sure: My Story of Growing Up In America” and “The Rich and the Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto.”

Smiley has visited Sacramento before, in the past joining his “Smiley & West” co-host, Sacramento native Cornel West for projects here in the capital city.

“An Evening with Tavis Smiley” is set to start with a VIP reception from 6:30-7:30 p.m., followed by the program from 7:30-9:00 p.m. There will be food and beverages provided by Chef James.

PAC15’s mission is to strengthen and improve the relationships between the African American community and legislative decision makers.
