Rebuild McKinley! Run and Walk for the Playground

EAST SACRAMENTO – A benefit 5k Run/Walk and Kids’ 1/2 Mile Fun Run to Rebuild McKinley Playground will take place on Saturday, September 8, at 8:15 a.m. Race day registration will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

The Kids’ 1/2 Mile Fun Run will take place at 8:15 a.m. and the 5k Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. The race route begins at the McKinley Park Playground and winds through the scenic McKinley Park neighborhood and McKinley Park.

The race is being organized by Rich Hanna, owner of Capital Road Race Management and his neighbor Aaron Melich, an East Sacramento resident and business leader. Rich Hanna said, “As frequent users of the park, my crew at Capital Road Race Management and the hundreds of runners and walkers who enjoy the park everyday have a responsibility to help restore this park to its full glory. We want to show the children who use this playground that we not only appreciate a place to run in the park but care about them too.”

Councilman Steve Cohn is leading the rebuild effort and stated, “This is a great example of the community coming together to raise funds to rebuild our beloved McKinley playground. Thanks to the support of people like Rich Hanna and Aaron Melich, I am confident that the playground will be rebuilt even better than before.”

Runners can register in advance online at Runners also have an opportunity to register on Thursday, September 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of Clunie Community Center, 601 Alhambra Boulevard, where a community meeting will be hosted by Councilman Steve Cohn and the City’s Parks and Recreation Department to discuss options for the rebuild.
