SACRAMENTO – Joseph Williams was named the new interim superintendent of Twin Rivers Unified School District at the September 4, 2012 Board of Trustees meeting. Mr. Williams, currently a principal at Foothill High School (FHS) in the Twin Rivers district, will be filling the role of interim superintendent during the 2012-2013 school year, while the Board of Trustees works with a search firm to undergo the process of selecting a permanent superintendent.
Mr. Williams was chosen from a highly qualified slate of candidates, following interviews with the Board of Trustees. After a careful review and deliberations, the Board selected Mr. Williams to lead the district and offered him a contract for the remainder of the current school year.
Mr. Williams has been with Twin Rivers since July of 2011 when he was hired to serve as principal of FHS, with a vision to transform the school to be a better educational institution to serve students.
Mr. Williams comes to the role of interim superintendent with a wide range of national experience in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. He offers strong leadership capacity from his experiences in various positions in school administration and from both the United States Navy and the United States Army.
Prior to starting his career in Twin Rivers, Mr. Williams was interim dean of students at American Canyon High School in the Napa Valley Unified School District. Additional administrative experience includes assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction with the Campbell Union High School District in San Jose, and director of secondary education with San Rafael City Schools.
At a state level, Mr. Williams has served as assistant director of assessment and as a federal programs supervisor for Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
His career includes an impressive military record, where he most recently served as Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army Reserves, Director of Information Management.
Mr. Williams earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-Colombia and his Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He received NCATE Certification in Secondary Administration from William Woods University, Fulton, Missouri.
One of the first tasks for Mr. Williams will be the selection of an interim principal for Foothill High School. An announcement will be forthcoming.
