Sac City School District Holds School Readiness Fair

SACRAMENTO – The Children who are the best prepared for school perform the best academically. To help get kids ready for the rigors of today’s classrooms, the Sacramento City Unified School District is sponsoring a School Readiness Fair on Saturday, Mar. 3.

The event will take place, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the SCUSD’s Enrollment Center next to the Serna Center on 47th Avenue.

Hundreds of families are expected to attend the fair to take advantage of such free services as health screenings and dental exams. Parents will also be offered information on kindergarten enrollment, pre-school enrollment, pre-kindergarten summer camp and community resources. Free books to encourage reading will be distributed.

“Our goal is to help every child be as ready and prepared for school as possible,” said SCUSD Superintendent Jonathan Raymond. “Every student deserves a great start to their academic career. With a strong child development program, we can end the dangerous cycle of ‘start behind, stay behind’ that traps so many kids.”

A free immunization clinic for qualified families will be held next door to the School Readiness Fair at SCUSD’s Enrollment Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families are asked to bring their children’s birth certificates and shot records. The School Readiness Fair is sponsored by SCUSD’s Child Development Department and Partners for School Readiness, including Kaiser Permanente, First 5 Sacramento and the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD).

The Serna Center is located at 5735 47th Avenue in South Sacramento.
